EMW/L44 Team Interview: Johanna Helin
How long have you been part of the L44/EMW team?
I'm just about to start. As Marika Mayfield is leaving for a new job (good luck to her new career!) I'm trying to fill her big shoes as administrator for both events.
What is your background?
I've worked for different organisations, big and small, mainly on international development and global education. I moved to Canada from Estonia two years ago. Here I started a social enterprise marketing products from women's cooperatives in Africa and Asia. So the location of the L44 event, WE Centre, is very close to my heart. I've also always been organising different projects and events so I'm looking forward to working in this team.
What excites you about your work?
The Estonian e-solutions have become more dear to me while living abroad and wondering why they could not be adapted here also. They make life so much easier and efficient. Thus, I find the L44 conference very timely and needed. I'm Finnish but I've always loved Estonian language, culture and music. Nothing could be more exiting than meeting the EMW artists in person and see them perform. I know that we are going to have an exiting week in November when all this is happening!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My life is quite busy at the moment with new job, small business and family. But I enjoy long walks with my dog, cooking, dancing and listening to music.
